Dick Carroll has been hosting a “Waffles and Strawberries” breakfast each year, but it was always a New Years Day tradition. Last year, he moved the event from his house to a park and moved it out into July. Thankfully, it now makes for another great excuse for a summertime hot rod roadtrip weekend for me! This year, I think I logged roughly 630 miles, according to what I plunked into Google Maps.
Saturday, I started the day by getting out and snapping pictures in my usual spots in New Melle. Then, I made a run over to Dale West’s house, and he laid down some pinstripes on the truck for me. I’ll post the pictures from that as a separate post.
The Waffle Breakfast was a lot of fun. Always great to see so many of my hot rod mentors in one setting. Unfortunately, I got too wrapped up in talking with everyone that I missed taking pictures of so many REALLY nice hot rods. The only one that I got pictures of was Jack Stirnemann’s incredible ’34 3 window.
